SHIKŌ BEAUTY COLLECTIVE
Art Direction / Branding / UX UI Design

About the Project
Shikō Beauty Collective is a premium, J-Beauty brand that thoughtfully curates the best of Japanese beauty, and brings it to an American audience.
The request was to design a brand from scratch; bringing Japanese beauty products to an American, online marketplace. Educating the American consumer on the Japanese cultural relation to beauty was arguably as important as selling individual product benefits.
I led this project's full branding initiative-from name and brand voice, to logo and photography. I also led UX/UI design as we brought this brand to market.

The Approach
Japanese tradition maintains that the secret to beauty is as much internal as it is external. Makes sense, doesn’t it?
This idea teaches us that natural beauty care should be a holistic process: a part of life, and a time of day, where we pause to activate each of our five senses.
Design details for this brand are intended to cater to the senses, awakening the mind/body connection with imagery you can almost touch, smell and experience.

The website began with a comprehensive UI kit built on an atomic design system. A 4px base unit, strategic breakpoints, and a tight grid allows for a strong responsive design.
Using simple, natural materials like paper, silk and rocks, we styled 9 different J-Beauty brands that launched on the marketplace in a way that suited each of their personalities.
