This project presented the challenge of packaging a food inspired by the design and culture of its country of origin. Donuts and pastries are a food product originally developed by the Dutch. Therefore, the Netherlands were a direct inspiration for this project. Dutch folk art was another strong inspiration for this project as were national symbols such as tulips and windmills. A distelfink is a stylized gold finch that represents happiness and good fortune. The distelfink was combined with a donut to create a unique mark that efficiently melds Dutch culture and their native treat in a contemporary fashion. Color was pulled from the flag of the Netherlands and used minimally. The inside panel of each package allows for the brand to insert its personality with a simple Dutch lesson using words that describe the product.
